Does anyone else think that this is one of the best ideas ever?
Someone decided to divide a part of Fifth Avenue into two lanes. Too bad it wasn’t the part of Fifth Avenue I walk up and down every day.

This is great! I think every city should do this. =) Maybe on streets, too, not just sidewalks.
LOL…That’s hilarious!! They could use something like that anywhere.

I don’t live in New York and I think it’s a great idea! They should start doing that all over the city!
I might do this in our local supermarket during August.
Thats hilarious. lol Whoever did this is a genius.
We could do with something like this in Oxford Street, London.
LOL. But I like it! It would be funny to see how many people take it seriously. Though, I doubt hardly anyone would considering New Yorkers J-walk like no man’s business.
There should be one is ever city.
This is profound. It is thought provoking.
We could TOTALLY use that for DC…the tourists are beyond moronic..well..most of them.
I agree, genius.
ah haha. this is hilarious. definitely true i was in new york last time around this time..
Funny, it definitely would help the fast pace become faster. 🙂
This is very funny, like a slow lane and a speed lane (for New Yorkers) 😉
I want Chicago to start doing this. It would help me get to work/play/sleep etc without shoving tourists into traffic.
HAHAHAHA! I wish this was around when I lived there! lol! Ducking and weaving in between slow tourists was like playing a game of Frogger….
How about “Texters” and “Non-texters?”
Ha ha! Quite!
I dont live in New York, but I do live in a tourist town, and I think this is f-ing rude. It is bad when people can’t even share a damn sidewalk. New York maybe wonderful and people there are one of a kind, but really???? Maybe New Yorkers need to be reminded that if you didnt have any dammed tourists, a lot of business would die off. Just for that, when I visit New York, I will stand on a damn busy street like an tourist and take pictures and be a pain in the a**.
Fight for your rights!
Rachel: I was sifting through the comments hoping to find a comment that was different from all the other comments and was glad to read yours. Although I find it funny and creative and perhaps true in a satirical fashion, it is yeah, rather senseless.
In fact, I think NY might attract more curious tourists hogging up the streets if people start doing more of these 😛
Rachel!!! You f-ing read my mind! I blogged about this same thing and I was totally against it! Our economy thrives from tourism. I stated in my blog that we had over 45 MILLION tourists in 2009. It’s New York F-in City for crying out loud. Who DOESN’T want to visit this awesome city?!
http://pbandchutney.wordpress.com/
I agree, let’s promote the same thing in London UK!
Pleeeaseeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought it saud Terrorists… Me and My Eyes…
then you’ll be surprised who’ll be walking in the terrorist lane…haha
if i was to win this kind of money I know so miney thing that i can invest some of it in that is good and ill be welling to let others win to
I have A Ideal so that you can see when you have very little lite

lol funny
thats all for now
that’s a dream come true. seriously needed.
Classic! When I lived in Manhattan, I used to think of the tourists as penguins, always waddling around slowly, looking up, down and all around with their cameras.
If there was one here in Waikiki, the tourist lane would be majority of the walkway. Leaving one sliver of the path for “Hawaiians.”
hahaha this is great. My husband and I joke about this so much in San Francisco.
Good one. But remember that when you are a tourist somewhere!
Now they’re getting some things in the zoo organized.
I totally agree with you, Jim Hagen…
omg it is about tome so,,eone thought of this… im tired of so many tourist crowding up the streets of nyc
OMG!! That IS the best idea ever!!!! Now we need that in London!!! And I would happily walk the tourist side in NYC… :o)
I used to work in a seaside resort and thought there should be a special lane for people eating ice cream cones and walking very slowly.
I think they should do this in London. xD
Seriosly? As a joke that´s perfect!
Feels like Apartheid
We need this at the Jeresy Shore. Right where the boardwalk meets the sand.

I don’t understand why they don’t like tourists…
Can be a good way, but can be discrimination!
This is definitely the best idea ever!
Shouldn’t the New Yorkers side be in the gutter?
I heart this comment.
I find it funny because how can anyone differentiate tourists from New Yorkers? I bet no one will take this seriously. 😀
This is especially important on St. Patrick’s Day. No one knows how things run around here…
Sadly New Yorkers never seem to leave town. And if they do, they walk fast, never look at anything or anyone and absolutely never take the time to appreciate the fantastic place they’re visiting?
Very amusing and a very good idea in theory.
It’s funny in a odd way. Could either end up good or real bad, depends on the person.
thats genius i think every city should get one
We shouldv’e used that during the Olympics in Vancouver..
Haha, nice. Florida’s roads need this. A Floridian lane and a snow bird lane that has a reduced speed. They go 25 mph in a 50 anyways.
Does anyone really like tourists? I remember once I was taking pictures of my friend, who was visiting me, and another Montrealer came up and asked me (albeit kindly) if I was a tourist. I tried not to seem too offended as I disagreed.
lol –fantastic!!
http://arleenophotography.wordpress.com
nice. i’d definitely be in the “WOW, IT’S THE EMPIRE STATE BUILDING” lane. New Yorkers hate me.
Haha, thats soo kick ass…but hey do you count as a Tourist if you’ve moved to NYC, because I think if you survived a month there without getting, robbed, evicted or turned into a prostitute, you should at least be allowed to walk with the natives…
I know tourists coming here are good for the economy but still, it is way too hard to walk on the same sidewalk as them.
We’re all tourists.

Excellent post! Just subscribed 🙂
Kind of joke, trains separation though. Never good – but how about join, connect… (accessers | non-accessers).. 😉
This is awesome. A win-win. Fast lane and slow lane so to speak 🙂
Would certainly help in London!
Although you may feel like part of your city, the city lives without you and all your tourists. You should feel like part of the people and not want to draw fucking signs on the street. Dildo—-
http://www.cloverspace.com/blog
The police will be like “Do you have a permit to be on this side of the path?” lol. Funny idea, not sure if it’s really a good one though :-p
Whoever did this- is a creative genius…!
amazing…as a fellow New Yorker…I can appreciate this…techinically it’s ART.
Haha its a great idea, but like some others said I doubt many people will follow it. Especially since New Yorkers j-walk.
Great Idea! all crowed city’s must do it!

Thats truly brilliant. Tourism is great, but sometimes you just wish you could get to the grocery store on weekends without having someone stop you to ask if you could take a picture of them in front of some building or street sign.
haha that’s just great.
What would Walt Whitman think about it?
too funny lol
Makes me not want to visit New York… I’ll be a separate-but-equal tourist who contributes to their huge tourist industry…
I go along with daynemercy. We’re all tourists. We can learn from tourists–to look up and see how the buildings scan the sky, to look around us at the remarkable diversity of people and catch a few words from the ones who talk to themselves, and the others who talk on their cell phones. Tourists frequently know more about the monuments in the city than the person living there. They see everything with fresh eyes. I say bravo, tourists. We should all be so lucky as to be tourists wherever and everywhere.
I love it. Only in NY!
lol great pic, tourists walk around like someone is pulling on their ponytail 24/7
Brilliant. Hilarious, but also a massive crack at segregation.
You might find the tourists copping a lot of flak.
Hopefully it was just for funnies, and it WAS funny.

Looks like Banksy’s doing.
Haha, but the fast lane is on the wrong side!
I don’t get it… but I’m from Canada. Whatever that means. (Is this for real, or a joke?)
PS: I’ve always wanted to go to New York. I’ve never been to the states before… but I’ve always wanted to go there. Should I rethink that, now? 😦
I’ve been trying to make this happen in Edinburgh for years. During the festival you can hardly get about and because of all the tourists what would normally take 10 minutes to walk suddenly becomes a 35 minute go slow protest by idiots gawping at market stalls
This is just amazing. Somebody tell the UN. It could stop rage all over the world!!!!
Good lord, it’s about damn time.
LOL!! that’s funny
Ha love it. Makes me hungry.
You’ve done it once more! Great post!
