  1. I want Chicago to start doing this. It would help me get to work/play/sleep etc without shoving tourists into traffic.

  2. I dont live in New York, but I do live in a tourist town, and I think this is f-ing rude. It is bad when people can’t even share a damn sidewalk. New York maybe wonderful and people there are one of a kind, but really???? Maybe New Yorkers need to be reminded that if you didnt have any dammed tourists, a lot of business would die off. Just for that, when I visit New York, I will stand on a damn busy street like an tourist and take pictures and be a pain in the a**.

    • Rachel: I was sifting through the comments hoping to find a comment that was different from all the other comments and was glad to read yours. Although I find it funny and creative and perhaps true in a satirical fashion, it is yeah, rather senseless.

In fact, I think NY might attract more curious tourists hogging up the streets if people start doing more of these 😛

  4. Classic! When I lived in Manhattan, I used to think of the tourists as penguins, always waddling around slowly, looking up, down and all around with their cameras.

  5. OMG!! That IS the best idea ever!!!! Now we need that in London!!! And I would happily walk the tourist side in NYC… :o)

  7. Sadly New Yorkers never seem to leave town. And if they do, they walk fast, never look at anything or anyone and absolutely never take the time to appreciate the fantastic place they’re visiting?

  8. Does anyone really like tourists? I remember once I was taking pictures of my friend, who was visiting me, and another Montrealer came up and asked me (albeit kindly) if I was a tourist. I tried not to seem too offended as I disagreed.

  9. Haha, thats soo kick ass…but hey do you count as a Tourist if you’ve moved to NYC, because I think if you survived a month there without getting, robbed, evicted or turned into a prostitute, you should at least be allowed to walk with the natives…

  10. I know tourists coming here are good for the economy but still, it is way too hard to walk on the same sidewalk as them.

  13. Haha its a great idea, but like some others said I doubt many people will follow it. Especially since New Yorkers j-walk.

  15. Thats truly brilliant. Tourism is great, but sometimes you just wish you could get to the grocery store on weekends without having someone stop you to ask if you could take a picture of them in front of some building or street sign.

  16. I go along with daynemercy. We’re all tourists. We can learn from tourists–to look up and see how the buildings scan the sky, to look around us at the remarkable diversity of people and catch a few words from the ones who talk to themselves, and the others who talk on their cell phones. Tourists frequently know more about the monuments in the city than the person living there. They see everything with fresh eyes. I say bravo, tourists. We should all be so lucky as to be tourists wherever and everywhere.

  17. PS: I’ve always wanted to go to New York. I’ve never been to the states before… but I’ve always wanted to go there. Should I rethink that, now? 😦

  18. I’ve been trying to make this happen in Edinburgh for years. During the festival you can hardly get about and because of all the tourists what would normally take 10 minutes to walk suddenly becomes a 35 minute go slow protest by idiots gawping at market stalls
